Mayor Lewis called the meeting to order.
The invocation was
brought by
Reverand Carl Mathews, pastor of
Valwood Baptist Church.
The minutes were then read and approved as
read.
STREET IN VALWOOD #14 -
CANDLEWICK
Bob King, Consultant Engineer
made a report to the council on
Valwood #14 streets and
his letter
was made a partof the records as
follows:
The council accepted the streets, especially Candlewick on the
condition that Uvalde Const. Co, would be res;?onsible for any damage
that might occur after heavy rains.
RECREATION DIRECTOR REPORT
Nolan Poovey reported that the committee wags working fine and
everyone was satisfied.
HUGHT'S & COX EASF12NTS
Attorney Nichols discussed the Hughes & Cox easements stating
that these property owners would like to tie into the sewer main.
It was explained that the City of Dallas would have to approve any
plans for this sewer main tie in. The easements were not acted on but
held for a later date.

LIABILITY INSURANCE
Manager Gray was authorized by the council to meet with Attorney
Nichols and Bob Langdon to prepare adequate liability insurance for
the City.
LAND PURCHA°E DISCUSSION
Mr. Louis Hexter's letter to sell the city land between the
Rawhide Creek Parkway was discussed but no action was taken.
CITY PLAIVER'S REPORT
Robert W. Hollin, city planner submitted two complete units
of the Comprehensive City Master Plan to the council. The two units
are titled (1) "The Major Thoroughfare Plan and (2) Subdivision
Controls & regulations."
EXTENSION OF VALT900D PARKWAY, WEST
Dr. L. S. Thompson requested the city council to study the exten-
sion of Valwood Parkway west of Highway 77 into his property. This
will be studied by the engineer.
JULY 4TH CELEBRATIOP?
The council appointed the following committee to plan an Indepen-
dence Day program for July 4 to be held in Showman Park. Col. Richard
Broadhurst, Chairman, Bob Whitten and Alex Acheson. Mayor Lewis issued
a proclamation declaring July 4, a legal holiday in Farmers Branch.
NEW GOMUNITY BUILDING DEDICATION
The council appointed Bob Whitten to act as chairman of a
committee to work on the dedication program of the new Community
Building and City Hall which will be opened soon.
YOUTH COUNCIL
The council approved the Rev. Bourdon Smith to head a citizens
group that would council with young people who have for one reason or
another been in difficulty with authorities.
ELECTRICAL LICENSING EXAMMIATION
The date of June 25, 1558 was set as the electrical licensing
examination date at the City Hall.
