MINUTES OF A REGULAR ?FETING
BOARD OF COUNCIUIEN
FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS
AUGUST 4, 1958
The City Council met in a regular meeting on August 4, 1958 at
7:30 P.M. at the Cit-wr Hall with the following present:
Mayor
Mayor Pro Tem.
Councilmen
Lawson Lewis
Thomas Reeder
Don Knox
H. N. Mallon
John Wilsey
Oley Attebery
Mayor Lewis called the meeting to order. The invocation was
brought by Mr. Attebery. The minutes of the previous meeting; were
read and approved.
Mr. Earnhart reported on his proposed shopping district to be

located at the southwest corner of Valley View Lane and Dennis Road.
He was questioned about his ability to get firm leases that would
enable him to finance the project. The suggestion was made to him that
the property would be rezoned residential unless he could give evidence
of conclusive progress within 30 days.
"r. Earnhart made certain statements and commitments to the Council
among which were the following:
He has a lease signed by Safeway.
He has a signed lease with Western Auto Supply.
He has other leases bringing the total lease
commitments to over 72,000 sq. ft. of space.
He will show evidence of these leases within ten
days.
He will deed property along Valley View Lane and Dennis
Road to the City prior to the end of August.
He will start construction of the shopping center prior
to the middle of September.
Mr. Jim Bush of St. Paul's Lutheran Church requested that his
church be allowed to hold Sunday school and church services in the new
Community Building until such time as the congregation could finance
their own building. The council took the matter under advisement.
Don Moore of Marine Development Co. reported that they had
bought the George Estate and wanted to know when city services could
be provided to that area. The council agreed to provide service at the
earliest opportunity.
Doc Remsburg of Rady Engineers reported that the city can proceed
in its sewer program based upon the ability to sell $p315,000 in
Revenue bonds. This sum will then take Rawhide Creek sewer to Webb
Chanel and Farmers Branch Creek sewer to Valley View.
The council authorized Mayor Lewis to accept agreement with Mayor
Melnnish of Carrollton regarding a compromise of city limits as shown
on map presented at discussion.
Mr. Mallon reported that he and Mayor Lewis had conferred with
County Corm issioner Lynn Lawther about the completion and widenign of
Dennis Road. 11r. Lawther s eemed willing to take on Dennis Road as a
County project if the City would provide the right of way, pay for
drainage and curb and gutter. The County would grade; build bridges and
surface. It was decided to present a proposal to the County promptly
and the City Planner was instructed to work immediately in this project
and to see that the proposal is prepared as soon as possible.
There being no further business the council adjourned.
