BOARD OF COUNCILMEN
FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS
MARCH k, 1957
The City Council met in a regular meeting on March 4, 1957 at 7:30 P.M.
at the City Hall with the following present:
Mayor Lawson Lewis
Councilman Thomas Reeder
Janes Brodhead
John Wilsey
Dewayne White
Councilman H. N. Mallon was absent.
The invocation was brought by Rev. James Westbrook, Pastor of the Webb
Chapel Methodist Church.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lewis. The minutes were read
by the Secretary and approved as read.
JUNIOR ROAD-E-O
On a motion by Councilman Brodhead, seconded by Councilman Wilsey, the
Council granted a request to the Jaycees to close Heartside Place from Valweed
Parkway to Amber Lane for the Teen-age Read E-0 to be held Sunday afternoon,
April 7, 1957.
DOG QUARANTINE ORDINANCE NO. 128
The City Council approved Ordinance No. 128 extending the Dog Quarantine
to March 18, 1957, at which time they agreed to take action on a permanent
law controlling dogs and cats. This motion was made by Councilman Wilsey,
seconded by Councilman Reeder.
Several citizens met with the Council and voiced their approval for
continuing thq dog quarantine.
S W BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY CONDUIT LINE ON VALLEY VIEW
The City Council approved the underground conduit line along Valley View
Lane by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on our engineers recommendations.
PYRAMID STREET ACCEPTANCE
On a motion by Councilman Brodhead, seconded by Councilman Reeder, the
Council accepted for maintenance Pyramid Street paving and the water and sewer

lines in Valwood Addition #10.
TWO NEW EMPLOYEES, TAX COLLECTOR AND FIREMAN
Manager Gray announced the hiring of two new city employees, They are
Bill Hamner, the city's third paid fireman at $300.00 per month and Don
Longshore as Tax Assessor and Collector at $300.00 per month.
PROCTOR SKETCH
A discussion was held on the Proctor all over sketch of the city which
did not materialize, but the Council learned that Marvin Springer, Dallas City
Planning had included Farmers Branch streets in the all over Dallas street
pattern.
VALWOOD SCHOOL TRAFFIC
The Council approved placing a one-way sign at the Amber Lane entrance to
the Valwood School. All cars will enter the school's driveway from Amber Lane
and exit onto Birchlawn.
CITY HALL REWIRING
Mr. Gray reported that the rewiring of the city Hall by Mr. Kenneth Burt,
had been checked and approved by Mr. Norvel, Dallas Electrical Inspector. The
cost of the rewiring was $381.85.
Mr. Norvel is making recommendations as to an electrical ordinance for the
City of Farmers Branch.
INWOOD ROAD - COTTENBELT INDUSTRIAL AREA
A discussion was held by the Council concerning water and sewer lines to
the Cottenbelt Industrial Area on Inwood Road.
No action was taken.
ELGIN SWEEPER
Mr. Gray reported to the Council that the City can purchase a used Elgin
Street Sweeper in good condition for 4600.00. This sweeper originally sells
for approximately $109,000.00. The Council approved Mr. Gray's recommendation
to purchase same.
INVOICES FROM SEPTEMBER 1. 1956
The following list of all invoices paid by the city from September 1, 1956,
through January 31, 1957, were approved on a motion by Councilman Brodhead,
seconded by Councilman Reeder. 16

VENDOR'S ORDINANCE
Mr. Louis Nichols, attorney for the city, has the city's present vendor's
ordinance studying it and revising it for Council action at a later date.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
Mayor Lawson Lewis proclaimed the week of March 4-9, 1957 , as Public
Schools Week in Farmers Branch.
ESTIMATES, ENGINEER'S & CONTRACTOR'S
On a motion by Councilman Brodhead , seconded by Councilman Reeder, the
Council approved payments of the Contractor's Estimate # 3 in the amount of
$16,248.46 and Engineer's Estimate # 4 in the amount of $969.00.
CURRENT BILLS
After checking invoices, the Council approved for payment all current bills
on a motion by Councilman Reeder, seconded Councilman Brodhead.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
