1957-03-18 CC MinutesMINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNCIIM FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS MARCH 18, 1957 The City Council met in a regular meeting on March 18, 1957 at 7:30 P.M. at the City Hall with the following present: Mayor Lawson Lewis Councilmen Thomas Reeder H. N. Mallon Janes Brodhead DeWayne White City Manager John J. Gray City Secretary Naomi Goodnight Councilman John Wilsey was absent. The invocation was brought by Rev. Malcolm Scoggins, Pastor of Valley View Baptist Church. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lewis. The minutes were read by Secretary Naomi Goodnight and approved as read. BORING UDDER GAS LINE On a motion by Councilman Reeder, seconded by Councilman Brodhead, the Council authorized the contractor building the sewer trunk line along Nichalson Road to bore a tunnel under a 20-inch high pressure gas line crossing the City's easement. The cost for boring under the gas line is $2535.00. Mr. Basham, Contractor, agreed that the city would have a $l5Q©.OO Credit because of allowing him to have an open cut at Valley View instead of boring under the road. Therefore, the additional cost of boring under the gas line is x'+1035.009 The Council directed the City's engineer to get a certified invoice from the contractor. DENTON DRIVE SEWER The estimates of a sewer line on Denton Drive north of Cook's Branch, were given to City Manager Gray by Engineer Doe Remsberg to be studied by Mr. Gray, Mayor Lewis and the Council. 27 VALWOOD PARKWAY CUT - THROUGH Several property owners along Valwood Parkway met with the Council to discuss the cut-through on Valwood Parkway between Bee St. and Albemarle St. Mr. Gray explained that the cut-through would be made and paved the next time any street paving was done in Val-wood Park. Mayor Lewis said he would call Mr. Lamberth and try to get a definite date. DOG QUARANTINE After a lengthy discussion on a proposed dog lease law and after talking to citizens who attended the Council meeting, the Council agreed to extend the present quarantine another sixty days to May 18, 1957 by ordinance No. 129. This motion was made by Councilman Mallon, seconded by Councilman Brodhead. This extention of the quarantine was to allow additional time for more families to make their views known on this matter. Only 2% of the town's 2000 families have written or called their opinion on the proposed lease law. COUNTY CONTRACT ON FIRE FIGHTING On a motion by Councilman Reeder, seconded by Councilman Brodhead the Cowd+AAnce, x/30) Council approved a county rural fire fund contract providing $2500.00 to the City to fight fires in the appointed county area surrounding the City of Farmers Branch. FIRE MARSHAL RESIGNATION The Council accepted Mr. Bob Hill's resignation as Fire Marshal for the City of Farmers Branch to be effective as soon as the Council can appoint a new marshal„ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REPORT Mr. George Hixon reported that a group from Carrollton Chamber of Commerce had net with Farmers Branch and both cities were stpding the problem of a possible merger of the two cities. CURRENT BILLS After checking the invoices, the Council approved for payment all current bills on a motion by Councilman Mallon, seconded by Councilman Brodhead. 28 There being no further business the meeting adjourned. itg Secretary 1 1 29
