FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS
APRIL 15, 1957
The City Council met in a regular meeting on April 15, 1957 at 7:30 P.M.
at the City Hall with the following present:
Mayor Lawson Lewis
Councilmen Thomas Reeder
H. N. Mallon
John Wilsey
DeWayne White
City Manager John J. Gray
City Seely. Naomi Goodnight
Councilman Janes Brodhead was absent.
The invocation was brought by Rev. Walter Arnold, Pastor of Mary Immacu-
late Catholic Parish.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lewis. The minutes were read
and approved as read.
RICHLAND AND FRUITLAND DRAINAGE
Manager Gray reported to the Council that the Richland and Fruitland
Street Drainage problems had been checked and as soon as the weather permits
the work to ease this drainage will start.
SCHOOL BUS ORDINANCE #131
On a motion by Councilman White, seconded by Councilman Mallon, the Council
approved Ordinance #131 which is:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS, REQUIRING THE
DRIVER OF ALL VEHICLES UPON PUBLIC STREETS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY TO
STOP UPON MEETING OR OVERTAKING FROM EITHER DIRECTION ANY SCHOOL BUS WHICH
HAS STOPPED UPON THE STREET FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCHARGING OR RECEIVING PASS-
ENGERS, AUTHORIZING SUCH VEHICLES TO PROCEED PAST THE SCHOOL BUS AT A RATE OF
SPEED NOT EXCEEDING TEN (10) MILES PER HOUR; MAKING AN EXCEPTION WHERE THE
STREET IS A DIVIDED ROADWAY; PROVIDING A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO
HUNDRED ($200.00) DOLLARS FOR EACH OFFENSE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITY CONTRACT
The Council deferred action on the Contract with the Trinity River Authority
concerning the proposed central sewage treatment plant and sewage system,
until the City Attorney and engineer have thoroughly studied the legal and
engineering details.

VALWOOD PARKWAY CLEARING
Councilman White asked about clearing the west sections of Valwood
Parkway from Bee Street to Highway 77. City Manager Gray explained that
work has been started on these sections of the Parkway to clear and beautify
them..
AVENEL SEWER LINE
A resident of Avenel Street reported to the Council that the sewer line
between Avenel Street and Albemarle running into Bee Street was sinking and
needed to be filled in as soon as possible.
PARK
The Council asked Manager Gray to write a letter to Mr. Louis Heater
accepting all or a part of 34 acres at $1000.00 per acre for a City Park.
CURRENT BILLS
After checking the current bills, the Council approved payments on a
motion by Councilman Mallon, seconded by Councilman Wilsey.
ENGINEERIS CONTRACT
The Council approved an,"expression of intent" on Engineers Joe Rady's
Contract which was presented to the Council to study. This motion was made
by Councilman Reeder seconded by Councilman White.
There being no furhter business the meeting adjourned at 10:10 P.M.
