MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF
BOARD OF COUNCILMEN
FARMERS BRANCH., TEXAS
MAY 27, 1957
The City Council met in a regular meeting on May 27, 1957, at 7:30 P.M.
at the City Hall with the following present:

The invocation was led by Rev. Malcolm Scroggins., Pastor of the Valley

TELEPHONE COMPANY
Mr. Barner of the S. W. Bell Telephone Company explained to the Council
the new installation rates in the city. The basic increase will average
50¢.
JAYCEE CARNIVAL
Jim Gott,, president of the Jaycee's, reported to the Council on the Don
Franklin Carnival and requested a change in location. The Council approved
this request.
MID-YEAR FINANCIAL REPORT
The Council approved the following revisions in the Budget:

1. Designate $15,000.00 in the Water & Sewer Expense to be transferred
to the General Hind as a Reserve.
2. Distribute the surplus in the Charter Expense Account of $2,000,04
as follows:
A. $52.40 to cover Election Account Deficit
B. $500.00 to Engineering
C. $1,000.00 to the Insurance Account
D. $250.00 to cover annual audit cost.
E. $197.55 to Reserve.
3. $300.00 appropriation for mosquito and fly control work.
4. Transfer Sanitation Fee Income from Water & Sewer Fnnd.to General Fund,

DOG SITUATION
~ThThe ouncil instructed the City Imager to prepare a Special Election

APPROPRIATIONS:
The Council approved the following appropriations:
for the vote of the citizens on a Dog Lease Law.
1. Purchase a John Deere Tractor for $1..750-00-
2. Purchase an Elliott Automatic Addressing Machine.
3. Pay $1,000.00 to H. T. Mahon for tax consultation services.
4. Purchase seven {7} rain suits for Sanitation Department and City Mgr.
5. Purchase air conditioners.
6. City to put up $5,000.00 for Denton Road Sewer Line.
DRAINAGE DITCH EAST OF AL ARLE
The Council instructed the City Manager to take up with the Cato Corpora-
tion the repair of damage and restoration of the channel of Cook's Branch.
Pictures are to be taken of Cook's Branch in its present condition.
PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION
George Hixon presented the Council with 61 signatures against the Humble
Service Station on the north side of the Valley View Shopping Center . The
Council instructed the City Manager to write the Humble Oil & Refining Company
a letter protesting the location of their proposed station. The Council also
instructed the City Manager not to issue a resume work order on the building.
The Zoning Commission asked the Council to increase the present Commission
to seven (7) members. The three men suggested were:
Ollie Attebury, Bill Binford,
J. C. Taylor.
There being no further Business to come before the Council, the meeting
