1957-06-03 CC MinutesMINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNCILMEN FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS JUNE 3, 1957 The City Council met in a regular meeting on June 3, 1957, at City Hall with the following presents Mayor Councilmen City Mgr. City Secy. Lawson Lewis H. N. Mallon Dewayne White Janes Brodhead John Wilsey John Gray Naomi Goodnight Councilman Reeder was absent. The invocation was brought by Rev. Bourdon Smith, Pastor of Christ Methodist Church. The minutes were then read and approved as read. 1 SHOPPING CENTER ON VALLEY VIEW Mr. W. W. Caruth and H. L. McQueen were present to discuss the future of the shopping center on Valley View Lane. Councilman Mallon explained that the Council had not been properly informed on this center. Mr. Caruth and Mr. McQueen had a site plan to give to the Planning & Zoning Commission. HUMBLE OIL CO. Mr. Niland of Humble Oil Company public relations, spoke to the Council and discussed the Humble Oil Station on Valley View Lane. No work is to progress on this until further notice. I~ CHANNEL IN VALWOOD The channel containing the sewer lines and mains are continuing to wash out,exposing the broken trunk line. Bob King, engineer for Joe Rady Company, is checking this along with members of the Cato Corporation. DOG LEASE LAW The dog ordinance was discussed and on a motion by Coucilman Mallon, seconded by Councilman White, the Council authorized City Manager Gray to distribute a sample ballot or opinion poll to the people. Anyone living here could cast a ballot. The ballots would be mailed to all who appeared on the 65 Water Department mailing list. There would be a two (2) week time period, ending June 17, 1957. PARK PROPERTY Mayor Lewis appointed Councilman White to head a committee to check on the park property. Councilman Wilsey was appointed to help Councilman White, who were to get their own committee from citizens in town interested in parks. ENGINEER & CONTRACTOR ESTIMATES On a motion by Councilman Brodhead, seconded by Councilman Wilsey, the Council approved for payment the following: Contractor's Estimate - $130887.70 Engineer's Estimate - 674.48 Disaster Report The Civil Defense Disaster Commission notified Mayor Lewis they would pay $560.78 toward our storm damages and mesquito control. CURRENT BILLS After all invoices were checked, the Council approved payment of the THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION FOR THE CITY OF FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS FOR THE YEAR 19579 MET ON MAY 149 1957. current BOARD OF bills on a EQUALIZATION motion by MEETING Councilman Mallon, seconded by Council Wilsey. MALLON DEPUTY ASSESSOR THERE WERE NO PROPERTY OWNERS APPEARING BEFORE THE BOARD DURING THE PERIOD SET ASIDE FOR HEARINGS. Don E.
