1957-07-15 CC MinutesMINUTES OF A REGULAR M~ETING OF BOARD OF CCJNCIIM FARMERS BRPOIC111, TEXAS JULY 15, 1957 1 The City Council met in a regular meeting on July 15, 1957 at the City Hall at 7:30 P. M. with the following present: Mayor Lawson Lewis Councilmen Thomas Reeder Janes Brodhead John Wilsey Dewayne White City Mgr. John J. Gray City Secy. Naomi Goodnight The invocation was brought by Rev. Carl Mathews, Pastor of Valwood Baptist Church. The Meeting was called to order by Mayor Lewis. The Minutes were 1 1 read by Secretary Goodnight and approved as read. ROBERT J. WEST SCHOOL MEMORIAL Mrs. Frances E. Thomas of the Dallas Philological Society spoke to the council about a marker to the first school building of Farmers Branch erected by Robert J. West at Valley View and Webb Chapel Road. The council approved the erection of the marker and told Mrs. Thomas to proceed with plans. MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION Rev. Joe Rand, Covenant Presbyterian Church, represented the Ministerial Association in speaking to the council about placement cards at the City Hall for all new comers. These cards will be filled in by the new comers and will give their church preference. The Ministerial Association will pick up the cards and give to the proper churches. Rev. Rand asked the council's approval to place the cards at the Water Dept. counter. On a motion by Councilman Brodhead, seconded by Councilman White, the council approved the se placement cards. CANVASING OF BOND ELECTION On a motion by Counci,man Brodhead, seconded by Councilman Wilsey, the Bond Election returns were canvassed and approved as follows: Proposition 1 For 254 Against 23 It 2 it 254 it 26 3 236 43 " 4 f. 226 48 » 5 243 " 36 a 6 ~i 237 " 40 7 241 38 This is known as Ordin ance #136. 76 SA18 OF BONDS MCouncilman Brodhead made a motion, seconded by Councilman Wilsey that 1 the firm of R. A. Underwood and Mercantile National Bank, be given authority to place the bonds on sale at 4 3/4% interest: General Obligation Bonds-4412,000.00 1 to 34 years maturity Revenue Bonds $310,070.00 1 to 32 years maturity This motion carried unanimously.
