BOARD OF COUNCILMEN
FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS
APRIL 21, 1958
The City Council met in a regular meeting at the City Hall on April 21, 1958
at 7:30 P. M. with the following present:
Mayor Lawson Lewis
Councilmen Thomas Reeder
John Wilsey
Dewayne White
Attorney Louis Nichols
Engineer Bob King
City Planner Bob Hollin
City Manager John J. Gray
City Secretary Naomi Goodnight
Mayor Lewis called the meeting to order.
Rev. Roy Williams, pastor of the Church of Christ, brought the invocation.
The minutes were then read and approved as read.
CANVASS ELECTION
The returns from the run-off election were opened by Mayor Lewis and the
results read.
Councilman, Place 1
Thomas Reeder 162 votes
Sam Page 125 votes
Councilman.. Place 4
Donald J. Knox 159 votes
Robert Whitlen 130 votes
Councilman Wilsey made the motion to approve the election returns as
read. This was seconded by Councilman White and all approved.
Councilman White made a motion seconded by Councilman Wilsey declaring
.the winners as follows:
Place 1 Thomas Reeder
Place 4 Donald J. Knox
All approved this motion.
PADDOCK STATEMENT
On a motion by Councilman Wilsey seconded by Councilman Reeder, the
council approved payment, to Paddock Eng. Co. of Texas for $12,471.86 on the
swimming pool which is 44.2024% complete.

ORDINANCE #148
On a motion by Councilman Reeder seconded by Councilman White, the council
passed ord. #148 zoning by special permit the Lemon Ave. Baptist Church pro-
perty on Webb Chapel to permit a medical clinic be built there. All voted for
approval.
BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
Several citizens were recommended to serve on the board of equalization but
no appointments were made.
BID ON ASPHALT KETTLE
The council accepted a bid of $1,046.05 by Browning-Ferris Machinery Co.
for a new Littlefield asphalt kettle. Councilman Reeder made the motion to
accept this bid, seconded by Councilman White. All approved.
CITY PLANNER REPORT
City Planner Bob Hollin reported that about 17% of the questionnaire had
come in and that the two main problems were garbage pick up and alleys. The
contract was tabled until the next regular council meeting.
TAX ASSESSOR, COLLECTOR
The council confirmed the appointment of James Petton as new city tax
assessor and collector. He will begin May 1, 1958.
ENGINEER'S REPORT
Engineer King reported that an emergency had come up on the trunk sewer
line crossing the highway because the state had started work on the second lane
of the freeway at our city limits. He explained that it would save the city
quite a lot of money to cross now with 163 ft. instead of waiting for the
easement right of ways to be settled. On a motion by Councilman Reeder,
seconded by Councilman White, the council declared this and emergency expenditure
and awarded a contract to Dickerson Const. Co in the amount of $9,990.63•
All approved.
Attorney Nichols told the council that the city would probably have access
to the easements on the Hughes, Cox & Skinner property within 30 days. The
council then authorized Eng. King to advertise for bids with publication date
May 1, 1958 and tabulation of the bids on June 2, 1958 at 2 P. M.

This motion was made by Councilman Wilsey, seconded by Councilman White.
All approved.
RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REPORT
The recreation advisory committee suggested the official opening of
"The Donald H. Showman Memorial Park" as June 14, 1958.
The city tryouts for the boys and girls interested in the AAU Junior
U
Olympic swimming meet was set for July 10 and 11. The AAU Junior Olympic National
swimming meet was set for July 17 and 18.
The council accepted these dates on a motion by Councilman Wilsey, seconded
by Councilman White. All approved.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
