April 14, 1953
A Special meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held at City Hall on
April 14.. 1953 at 7:30 P. M.,with the following Aldermen present:
Mayor Lawson Lewis
J. W. Culpepper
R. J. Knight
B. A. Marconi
Thomas Reeder
Mayor Lewis presided and Lyman Goodnight acted as secretary.
MINUTES
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
REZONING ON VALLEY VIEW
Mr. Lewis reports that Mr. C. D. Bell, Attorney, has been notified to
perform the necessary legal work on the Clinic rezoning.
WATER MAIN ON VALLEY VIEW
The Council discussed taking bids on lowering the water main on
Valley View Lane.
FIRE TRUCK
Mr. Lewis reports the new 750 GPM pumper has been ordered for the fire
department. Delivery date will be possibly the last of July.
FIRE INSURANCE KEY RATE
Mr. Bartosh, State Fire Insurance Commission representative, discussed
street numbers for the city. On motion made by Reeder, seconded by Knight,
it was unanimously agreed to adapt 25 ft. numbering for business districts
and 60 ft. numbering for residential. On motion by Culpepper, seconded
by Marcom , it was accepted that all of Highway 77 will be numbered
13,000 North, also the East side of the Highway is to be even numbers.
MCQUEFN ADDITION
Mr. H. L. McQueen met with the Council and presented a blue print of
his proposed shopping village in his addition on Valley View lane.
Elie Council referred him to the Zoning Commission.
HIGHWAY SHOPPING CENTER
Mr. Webb Roberts met with the Council to discuss a proposed shopping
center on Highway 77. No action was taken by the Council.
CORPORATION COURT JUDGE
On motion by Reeder, seconded by Culpepper, Mr. Art Clouston was
appointed to be Corporation Court Judge. This appointment was unanimously
approved by the Aldermen.
NEW PLATS FOR CITY
Mrs. Naomi Goodnight, Tax Collector, reports the city plats are al-
most beyond use to render property. On motion by Marcom, seconded by
Knight, the Council authorized Mrs. Goodnight to purchase new plats.
CURRENT BILLS
Current bills were approved to be paid.
