July 21, 1953
A special meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held at the City Hall on
July 21, 1953 at 7:30 P. M.,with the following present:
Mayor Lawson Lewis
Alderman Thomas Reeder
" B. A. Marcom
" J. W. Culpepper
" R. J. Knight
Sedretary Edward N. Kerr
WATER SUPERINTENDENT
After discussion of the excellent work being performed by Mr. Lyman
Goodnight, Water Superintendent, and on motion made by Thomas Reeder, seconded
by R. J. Knight, it was unanimously agreed to increase Mr. Goodnight's salary
to $300.00 per month effective July 1, 1953.
WATER AND SEWER IMPROVEMENT
Mayor Lewis reported that Mr. Joe Rady will be finished with all necessary
engineering so that bids may be taken within the next week or ten days by
which time the proceeds from the sale of bonds will be in hand.
LIBRARY
Mayor Lewis reported that Mr. Roach has agreed to provide suitable
quarters on the school premises for housing the library. As this plan is
agreeable with the librarian, no further action need be taken by the Board
of Aldermen.
ANNEXATION
Mayor Lewis reported that Mr. Bell next week will have the necessary
petitions ready for beginning the annexation of certain new territory.
CURRENT BILLS
All current bills were directed to be paid.

DITCH ALONG RAILROAD FIGHT OF WAY
Mr. Roy Rasberry met with the Council and read a letter from the County
Engineerts Offic:- about the ditch along the Katy Railroad right-of-way.
He requested the Mayor and City Council clear the right-of way. It will be
necessary to condemnGipson Taylorts squatter property. IT. Lewis is to
confere with Mr. Tanner of the Katy Railroad.
DOG CATCHING
Mr. Everett Holt, City Marshal, asked for help with the dog catching
problem. Alderman Knight made this motion; to hire a man for one day to
help Mr, Holt catch all stray dogs. Alderman Culpepper seconded the motion
and all voted aye.
CUFRENT BILLS
Bills in the amount of $295.34 were approved for payment.
