1956-08-06 CC MinutesMINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS AUGUST 6, 1956 The City Council met in a regular meeting at 7:30P. M. at the City Hall on August 6, 1956 with the following present: Mayor Lawson Lewis Aldermen Thomas Reeder H. N. Mallon Janes Brodhead Bayne Gibson John Wilsey The minutes were read by Lyman Goodnight and approved as read. SEWER LINE VALWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH There was a discussion on the sewer line that would serve Valwood Park Baptist Church. The City isn't financially able to put this line in. McQUEEN SHOPPING CENTER H. L. McQueen was present and presented drawings of his shopping center. CERTAIN MINERAL IN SEWER A motion was made by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Wilsey passing an ordinance prohibiting certain mineral and acids to go in the sewer lines. WATER AND SEWER RATES An ordinance was passed making the water rates: 3000 gals $2.50, next 2000 50¢ each and 35~ for all over 5000 gals. The sewer rate is $1.50 per one dwelling unit and commercial is 60% of water used. This motion was made by Alderman Gibson, seconded by Alderman Mallon. BUILDING PERMIT FEES On a motion by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Gibson, an ordinance was passed clarifying the Building Code Ordinance with respect to building permits fees. Fee shall be: building of brick - $7.00 per square foot, building of frame - $5.00 per square foot. VENDORS ORDINANCE AMENDMENT The Vendors Ordinance was amended to a license fee basis of $25.00 per year for itenerant vendors. This motion was made by Alderman Gibson, /O seconded by Alderman Brodhead. AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE 18 A motion was made by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Wilsey, amending section 2 of Ordinance 18, creating a Planning and "Zoning Commission. HEAVY TRUCK PARKING IN STREET An ordinance prohibiting parking of heavy trucks in streets in the residential areas of the City of Farmers Branch, was passed on a motion by Alderman Wilsey, seconded by Alderman Gibson. TRASH BURNING ORDINANCE The Council passed an ordinance regulating the burning of trash, weeds, grass, brush etc. This motion was made by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Gibson. EMERGENCY FUND INVESTMENT On a motion by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Gibson, Mr. Lewis read a letter from Grady Cates stating that Cato Corporation would put a bridge across Cook Branch at Bee Street. ZONING MAP The new zoning map was accepted by the Council on a motion made by Alderman Brodhead & seconded by Alderman Mallon. VALLEY VIEW DEV. COMPANY BACK TO ZONING COMMISSION The Valley View Developement Company zoning was all referred back to the Zoning Commission on a motion by Alderman Gibson, seconded by Alderman Mallon. WRECKING YARDS The Zoning Commission's recommendation was accepted by the Council not to let Mir. Rosendiver place a wrecking yard on Hines Blvd. where Potts Garage is now located. This motion was made by Alderman Brodhead, seconded by Alderman Mallon. BUILDING INSPECTOR Mr. R. G. Gentry was hired as building inspector at a monthly salary of $325.00, on a motion by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Wilsey. MACON SHOPPING CENTER On a motion by Alderman Wilsey, seconded by Alderman Mallon, the plans and letters on Mr. Macon's property around the City hall will all be given %OZ to the Planning and "Zoning Commission to study. DEEDS TO NEW CITY PARK The deeds from Mr. Mallon, being 5.5 acres, were accepted by the City as a city park. This motion was made by Alderman Gibson, seconded by Alderman Brodhead. Mayor Lewis is to write a letter accepting this property. PARKWAY & PEPPERWOOD WATER LINE Mr. R. S. Dickerson's bid on the water line on the new parkway and Pepperwood was approved on a motion by Alderman Mallon, seconded by Alderman Gibson. CURRENT BILLS A motion was made by Alderman Brodhead to authorize John Gray to check all bills for payment so the city would not loose discounts. The current bills was approved for payment on a motion by Alderman Wilsey, seconded by Alderman Brodhead. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. City Secretary L /03
