1956-08-30 CC Minutes1 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS AUGUST 30, 1956 The City Council met at 7130 P. M. at the City Hall on August 30, 1956 with the following present: Mayor Aldermen City Adminis. City Secretary Lawson Lewis Thomas Reeder H. N. Mallon Janes Brodhead John Wilsey Jack Gray Naomi Goodnight The meeting was opened by a prayer led by Alderman Wilsey. The minutes were read and approved as read. 1 INSURANCE REPORT Mr. Bob Langdon reported to the Council that the city was carrying unnessary liability insurance on the city equipment. Alderman Brodhead made a motion to drop this liability insurance. This motion was seconded by Alderman Mallon. All approved. ADVISORY INSURA BOARD Mr. Langdon discussed with the Council the adoption of an Advisory Insurance Board. He recommended four things as follows 1.MUST HOLD A VALID FIRE AND CASUALTY RECORDING AGENTS LICENSE ISSUED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS. 2.MUST REPRESENT LICENSED STOCK COMPANIES AUTHORIZED TO DO BUSINESS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. 3.MUST RESIDE AND OPERATE A BONAFIDE AGENCY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. 4.MUST SERVE AS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY INSURANCE BOARD. LJ One agent may write total policies but commission will be split accordingly. After discussion, Alderman Reeder made the motion to adopt the Advisory Insurance Board. This second was made by Alderman Wilsey. All approved. ZONING FARING REPS Mr. George Hixon reported to the Council, the public hearing of August 28th regarding the Valley View Dev. Co. commercial district back to a /0 residential area. He recommended to change this commercial area to a Shopping Center. He also recommended that no commercial development along Valley View go beyond Goodland Street east. FIRE SAFETY CAMPAIGN A Fire Safety Campaign will be started and all new houses being built will be checked by the Building Inspector for the wiring and must meet with the Building and Electrical Code. PAVING CF MUNICIPAL BLVD. +r~rnr~r Uvalde Construction Company was low bidder on paving the new parkway and park streets. The bid was $18,979.27. There would be some extra cost for leveling some places in the streets where the grade was off. The city plans to put the storm sewer in with their own men doing the work. William Dodson Parkway was suggested as the name for the new parkway into the city park. The Council agreed to accept this name if it is agreeable with Mrs. Dodson. BEE STREET BRIDGE REPAIRED The Bee Street bridge at 8avenhurst has been repaired after the old bridge fell in. Also at Bee Street and Pepperwood. Total cost, $320. TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITY OF TEXAS Mr. Thorpe of the Trinity River Authority of Texas talked with Mr. Gray about the General Sewer plans for this area. The city part of the engineering fee was $1,000 which has been paid. SCT HML.TRAFFIC LIGHT The school traffic light has been purchased and will be installed as soon as possible by Lyman Goodnight and Texas Power & Light Company. MASTER PLAN John Gibson of C. L. Moon, Engineers is preparing the master plan of the city. WATER BILLING MACHINE rrf.r rr.. r. Mr. Gray reported to the Council that several different ways of billing has been checked and Burroughs is the most likely one that will be best for our needs. /O6 CHARTER REPORT Mr. Gray reported that the Charter is nearing completion and will be ready for approval in about three more meetings. _JtjAE DER On a notion by Alderman Reeder, seconded by Alderman Brodhead, Judge 0. F. Madden will receive $50 per month for his services. All approved. CMIM BILLS On a motion by Alderman Wilsey, seconded by Alderman Mallon, the current bills were approved for payment.
