1956-11-05 CC MinutesMINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING -OF BOARD OF ALDERMEN FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS NOVEMBER 59 1956 The City Council met in a regular meeting at 7:30 P. M. at the City Hall on November 5, 1956 with the following present: Mayor Lawson Lewis Aldermen Thomas Reeder Bayne Gibson Janes Brodhead John Wilsey City Adm. Jack Gray City See. Naomi Goodnight The meeting was opened by prayer led by Alderman Gibson. The minutes were then read and approved as read. THANKSGIVING HOLLIDAY The Council discussed which Thursday, November 22 or November 29, would be observed as Thanksgiving for the city employees. On a motion by Alderman Reeder, seconded by Alderman Gibson, November 29 was chosen as the holliday the City of Farmers Branch would observe. ORDINANCE SETTING CHARTER EfFCTION DATE An ordinance was passed setting December S, 1956 as the election date for a home-rule charter and a counil-manager form of government. The motion to adopt this ordinance was made by Alderman Reeder, seconded by Alderman Gibson. NOTICE OF POSTING AND PUBLICATION A motion was made by Alderman Brodhead, seconded by Alderman Reeder to post the notices and publications of the Charter Election. All approved. NEW GARBAGE TRUCK Mr. Gray reported to the Council that the new Pak-Mar garbage truck had been purchased for $5,000; $1,000 was made as the down payment and $200 per month until paid in full. RADIO ROOM & FIREMAN'S QUARTERS Mr. Gray reported that the new radio room for the police and the new fireman's quarters was completed at a cost of $445-14. /IS SALARED FIREMEN Mayor Lewis announced the hiring of Les Yager and Gene Busby as two permanent firemen for the city. The men will attend a six-week training course at the Dallas Firemen's Training School. DOG AND CAT POUND The city now has a dog and cat pound, it was announced by Mr.Gray. The cost to build this pound was $41.73. PAVING ON Wm, DODSON PARKWAY balance Mayor Lewis told the Council that the city made a pxxftkk of $426.91 after paving the new park road and the Wm. Dodson Pardway. The Uvalde bid was $19,357.50. 1956 TAXES COLLECTED Mr. Gray reported to the Council that $15022 had been collected as of this date on 1956 Taxes. SEWER ON DENTON DRIVE A discussion was held by the Council on the sewer line on Denton Drive. It was decided to defer action on this sewer. PAINTING WATER TOWER Mr. Albert Cline of Water Tank Service Company talked with Mr. Gray about painting and reconditioning the water tower. Mayor Lewis suggested that we have the inside of the tower refinished if the guarrantee still would be in effect per contract. EIECTRICAL CODE ENFORCENENT Developer George Myers met with the Council and spoke on improving regulations and enforcements of the City Electrical Code. The Council then instructed Mr. Gray to revise the electrical code and set up adequate inspections to enforce the code. Alderman Brodhead suggested that the electrician operating in our city be bonded and state licensed. Mayor Lewis is to contact an electrical inspector and report to the next Council Meeting. FIRE SIREN ON TOM FIELD AND DIXIANA At the request of citizens in the vicinity of the fire siren at Tom Field and Dixiana, the Council instructed Mr. Gray to investigate a t possible new location for the siren.
