1974-04-08 CC MinutesCITY OF FARMERS BRANCH CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING April 8, 1974 Members of the City Council present were: Mayor George G. Grimmer Mayor Pro Tem W. R. Linn Councilmen: Ray Flaherty Bill McClung Ken Quevreaux Bill Binford Members of the Administration present were: City Manager Paul M. West City Secretary J. W. Wade City A ttorney Doug McCallon Se cretary Ruth Ann Parish Mayor Grimmer called the City Council Special Meeting to order at 6:30 P. M.. Mayor Pro Tem W. R. Linn gave the invocation. CANVASS CITY ELECTION RETURNS AND PASS CANVASS ORDER RESOLUTION AND SWEAR INTO OFFICE THE ELECTED CANDIDATES. Mayor Grimmer declared that one copy of the election returns of the City Council election held on April 6, 1974, the poll list, and the tally list had been delivered to him the night of 'the election, and had been in his possession since that time. Mayor Grimmer read the results of the election as follows: Mayor Name Number of Votes Robert C. Hackney 355 George G. Grimmer 709 Place 2. Bill McClung 573 Kenneth Baxter 469 Place 4. Lois Irene Anderson 228 Bill Binford 516 John D. Dodd 398 Page 840. Mayor Grimmer quoted from the Charter of the City of Farmers Branch the following: "In the event no candidate for a given office has received the necessary .majority, the mayor shall, on the first day following the completion of the official canvass, call a second election to be held on the second Saturday following such call. " Upon a motion by Councilman Binford, a second by Councilman Quevreaux, all voting "aye", passed a resolution order accepting the canvass of the election returns and declaration of the results of the April 6, 1974 City Council Election, and that: It appearing that George G. Grimmer, received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Mayor, and he is hereby declared to be elected to said office to serve after qualifying until the regular municipal election of 1976, and until his successor shall have been elected and shall have qualified. It appearing that Bill McClung, received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilman, Place 2, and he is hereby declared to be elected to said office to serve after qualifying until the regular municipal election in 1976, and until his successor shall have been elected and shall have qualified. It appearing that no candidate received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilman, Place 4, and a run-off election shall be necessary and Councilman Binford shall remain in office until his successor shall have been elected and shall have qualified. Mayor Pro Tem Linn administered the oath of office to Mayor Grimmer. Mayor Grimmer administered the oath of office to Councilman McClung. ADJOURNMENT.
