1987-06-09 CC MinutesCITY OF FARMERS BRANCH CITY COUNCIL FARMERS BRANCH MANSKE LIBRARY 13613 WEBB CHAPEL ROAD JUNE 9, 1987 4:30 P.M. All City Council Members were present. Mayor Dodd called the meeting to order at 4:37 P.M., and announced that the meeting was a continued meeting from June 8, 1987. Mayor Dodd announced that the City Council desires not to have an Executive Session in discussion of the City Manager position. There was discussion that Mr. Fred Green had been contacted about his interest in the position and he declined. At this point the City Council discussed their desire of pursuing the interviewing process further with Mr. Richard Escalante of Carpentersville, Illinois. Mayor Dodd is to get in touch with Mr. Oldani and let him know of the Council's desire. The members of the City council expressed desire of traveling to Carpentersville to check out credentials, such as talking with Mayor and City Council, citizens and personnel under the manage- ment of Mr. Escalante. The City Council also expressed a desire for Mr. Escalante to come to Farmers Branch again and perhaps visit a council meeting at his convenience. After more discussion of continuing the interview process for the position, a motion by Councilman Dunagan, a second by Councilman Weidinger, all voting "aye", authorized the expenditure, (normal and reasonable expenses incurred following the Council Travel Policy), of the members of the City Council to travel to Carpentersville, Illi- nois, to pursue the continuance of the interview process on Mr. Escalante with Carpentersville City Council, citizens and personnel under his management; and, that this expenditure be authorized for one night's accommodation. And, further the City Council authorizes the invitation and expenditure of Mr. and Mrs. Escalante returning to Farmers Branch for further interviewing with the Council at a time convenient, and hopefully during a time when a Council meeting is scheduled. PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION -COMPREHENSIVE PLAN There was a brief discussion of extending the time from July 1, until August 1, 1987 for the Planning and Zoning Commission to have their study and comments to the Council on the Comprehensive Plan. The Council agreed that the August 1, 1987 would give them a little more time and they would not have to be in a bind timewise to complete the study. It was also discussed that the Planning and Zoning Commission would like to have the staff's comments and has requested that John Burke, Director of Parks and Recreation attend the meetings. CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATES FOR JUNE AND JULY. The City Council discussed that they had arranged their schedules around the regularly scheduled meeting dates for June and July and they desired not to change them. There was discussion that the second Vol. 52, Page 61. meeting date is July could be cancelled if it was not necessary to have one. ADJOURNMENT: A motion by Councilman Dunagan, a second by Councilman Weidinger, all voting "aye", adjourned the City Council emergency meeting of June 9, 1987.
