CONSIDER AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE FOR TOURIST BROCHURES AND
TAKE THE APPROPRIATE ACTION.
Councilwoman Davis explained that this item had been discussed in
the Council budget workshop on Sunday (August 30, 1987). The
representatives meeting for the Economic Development Tour has
come up with designing a brochure to promote all hotels in the
area and the hotel people are delighted.
Councilwoman Davis made a motion authorizing the appropriation
of $2,500.00 from the Hotel/Motel Tax Funds to fund half of the
expenditure of the brochures that will promote all of the hotels
in the area and that this will be a joint endeavor with the City
of Addison who has also agreed to fund the same amount.
Councilman Dunagan seconded the motion. All voted "aye".
CONSIDER AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR NEW YORK TRIP
PROMOTING FARMERS BRANCH AND TAKE THE APPROPRIATE ACTION.
Mayor Dodd reviewed a letter received from Janie Scarbrough,
President of the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce telling of
a request for the chamber's participation in New York at the
Texas Information Center to meet with the JCPenney employees
to provide information on Farmers Branch. JCPenney Company has
invited members of the Chambers of Commerce from Dallas-area
communities to meet associates and talk informally with them.
This event will be held in the New York Office on September 14,

15 and 16, 1987. Four representatives are needed to man the
information booth.
There was discussion of sending the City's Public Information
Officer, Donna Huerta; Janie Scarbrough from the Chamber with the
understanding that the expenses for her trip would come out of
money that may be approved for the Chamber's Economic Development
in the City's 1987-1988 budget; and any member of the Council
or at least two on this trip to New York.
A motion by Councilwoman Davis authorized the expenses for Janie
Scarbrough to go to New York promoting Farmers Branch and her
portion of the expenses to come out of the Chamber's Economic
Development request for the 1987-1988 City's budget; authorized
expenses of the City Council member, but not more than two, to
also attend; and that the expenses of the Public Information
Officer be also authorized to go to New York.
Councilman Weidinger seconded the motion. All voted "aye".

voting "aye", adjourned the Special Council Meeting of August 31,
