MINUTES OF A. SPECIAL MEETING
CITY COUNCIL
June 24, 1969
8:30 P. M.
Members of the City Council present were:
Mayor W. C. Roberts, Jr.
Mayor Pro-Tem George G. Grimmer
Councilmen John D. Helms
Al Korioth
City Manager Dennis Spellmann
Councilmen Ed Schedler and W. R. Linn were absent:
Mayor Roberts called the meeting to order.
JULY 4TH ACTIVITIES INSURANCE RESOLUTION
Upon a motion by Councilman Helms, a second by Councilman Grimmer,
all voting "ayes", passed a resolution requesting Aetna Insurance
Company to become surety on bond or undertaking to be executed
for the State of Texas as principal in connection with a Fireworks
Display in Farmers Branch, Texas.
PARKS AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD RECOMMENDATION
After some discussion as to the attendance of John Duncan of the Parks
and Beautification Board meetings, a motion by Councilman Helms, a
second by Councilman Grimmer, to table action on this item;
Councilman Korioth moved to amend the motion by approving the
recommendation of the Park and Beautification Board by removing
John Duncan as a member from said board; Councilman Grimmer
seconded the motion of amendment. The motion of amendment
carried will all voting "ayes".
RESOLUTION - TAX EXEMPT BOND STATUS
Upon a motion by Councilman Grimmer, a second by Councilman Helms,
all voting "ayes", passed a resolution in opposition to any limitation on
the tax exempt status of interest paid on municipal bonds.

The Council agreed that each Councilman write a letter to our
Congressmen stating their views of opposition to such a bill.
REQUEST TO PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD - ZONING REGULATIONS
TO ALLOW RESTA.URA.NTS IN LR-1 ZONED A.REA.S
After some discussion, a motion by Councilman Korioth, a second by
Councilman Grimmer, all voting "ayes", requested the Planning and
Zoning to change the zoning regulations to allow restaurants without
drive-in service in the present LR-1 zoned areas.
A.PPOINTMENT TO RECREATION AND ACTIVITIES BOARD
After some consideration, a motion by Councilman Korioth, a second
by Councilman Grimmer, all voting "ayes", appointed Mrs. Peggy
Fournier to the Recreation and Activities Board for a partial term
to expire January, 1970.
SUBURBAN NEWS - ADDITIONAL OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER
A.s requested by the Council at the last regular meeting, Mr. Ed King,
General Manager of the Suburban News, resubmitted a bid of 10~ per
typed line on legal notices to be considered as an additional official
newspaper.
After some consideration, a motion by Councilman Korioth, a second
by Councilman Helms, all voting "ayes", named the Suburban News as
an additional official newspaper.
